Four Local Banks Unite to Combat Fraud with “Community Banks Fighting Fraud” Campaign

Western Kentucky — Four local community banks, Community Financial Services Bank (CFSB), First Kentucky Bank, FNB Bank and The Murray Bank, are joining forces to launch an initiative to educate and protect their customers from fraud. Through a joint social media campaign titled Community Banks Fighting Fraud, the banks aim to raise awareness about common fraud strategies and provide essential tips for safeguarding financial information.

The campaign will kick off on Friday, November 29, 2024, with a holiday-themed series designed to equip customers with the knowledge to detect and prevent fraud during the busiest shopping season. This initial five-week series will post every Friday on the social media channels of each participating bank. By working together, these banks hope to deliver a unified message: fraud prevention is a shared responsibility, and simple precautions can make a world of difference.

The Community Banks Fighting Fraud campaign will cover a range of important topics, including holiday-specific scams, phishing, digital banking safety, and tips for small businesses. The series will continue into 2025 with additional educational resources, empowering customers to stay vigilant and informed year-round.

By pooling resources and expertise, CFSB, FNB, First Kentucky, and Murray Bank are demonstrating the strength of community banks working together for the good of their customers. This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to keeping customers’ financial security at the forefront, especially during the holiday season when fraud attempts typically increase.

Community Banks Fighting Fraud will be exclusively featured on the social media channels of CFSB, FNB, First Kentucky, and Murray Bank. Each post in the series will provide easy-to-understand strategies for fraud prevention, empowering customers with actionable steps to secure their accounts.

This collaborative effort reflects the dedication of these community banks to serve as trusted financial partners, prioritizing both customer education and proactive fraud prevention measures.

For more information, follow the social media channels for CFSB, FNB, First Kentucky, and Murray Bank.

Starting today, FNB customers will have free* access to Greenlight’s award-winning family finance app, available through the Greenlight for Banks program.

91% of kids and teens believe they need financial knowledge and skills to achieve their life goals, and 94% of parents agree.1 Still, only 35 states require a personal finance course for students, and teens score an average of 64% on the National Financial Literacy Test, showing a clear gap in financial education that is accessible and effective. Parents also rank personal finance as the #1 most difficult life skill to teach their children with 81% saying they wish they had more financial education tools and resources.2

Greenlight offers a debit card and app that teaches kids and teens how to earn, save, give, and spend wisely – all with parental supervision. Using the Greenlight app, parents can send money instantly, automate allowance payments, manage chores, set flexible spending controls, get real-time notifications of all transactions, and more. Kids get hands-on money management experience, along with access to Greenlight Level Up™, an in-app financial literacy game with a best-in-class curriculum, educational challenges, and rewards.

“We could not be happier about our new partnership with Greenlight,” stated Brooke Wiles, FNB’s Chief Marketing Officer.  “We strive to provide our customers with revolutionary products and services that make managing their finances easier during every stage of life.  With Greenlight, parents can still parent, while providing their children with valuable hands-on financial literacy skills.  It’s win-win for parents and kids!”

Murray State University Invites Community to 15th Annual A Taste of the Arts Benefit Event – Sponsored by FNB

The College of Humanities and Fine Arts at Murray State University invites the public to attend the 15th annual A Taste of the Arts dinner and live auction event, with proceeds designated to provide scholarships for fine arts students.

The event will be held on Thursday, October 17, in Lovett Auditorium. Doors open at 5 p.m. for a cocktail hour, and dinner will be served at 6 p.m. The event is sponsored by FNB Bank and will showcase performances by fine arts students, a free photo booth by Patrick Abanathy of Abanathy Photography, LLC, a fine dining experience provided by Sodexo and a live auction conducted by professional auctioneer Tanner Roberts.

“A Taste of the Arts is an essential scholarship fundraiser for our hardworking fine arts students,” said David Balthrop, dean of Murray State’s College of Humanities and Fine Arts. “However, it is so much more. It brings together our community to celebrate the importance of the arts in all of our lives, and it showcases our next generation of artists, musicians and actors. I hope you will join us for an evening of inspiration, philanthropy and fun.”

As part of the event, the College of Humanities and Fine Arts annually awards the Outstanding Alumni in the Fine Arts. This year’s recipient is Carrie Stover (’05). Stover serves with the leadership team as the Director of the Shrode Art Center at Cedarhurst Center for the Arts in Mount Vernon, Illinois, where she has worked since 2006. As director, she curates the Regenhardt Gallery, which focuses on highlighting artists in the southern Illinois region through juried competitions and solo exhibitions. She also organizes educational programs, teaches, oversees craft affinity groups and develops cutting-edge programs to successfully grow support for the arts in the region. The Illinois Association of Museums selected her as the 2022 Museum Professional of the Year, which is a prestigious statewide honor. As an artist, Stover exhibits her ceramic work in galleries nationally.

“The Department of Art & Design is thrilled to bestow this well-deserved honor on alumna Carrie Stover,” said Dr. Rebecca Williams, Art & Design Department chair. “Her work as a leader in the arts community makes a difference in our region, and she generously supports our current Murray State students by sharing her wisdom and experience through speaking and jurying engagements. Carrie is a wonderful ambassador for our department and our University, and we are excited for the opportunity to introduce her to our guests at this year’s A Taste of the Arts.”

The College also selects an annual recipient for the Outstanding Fine Arts Young Alumni award, and this year’s winner is Leva Bates (’03). Bates is a professional wrestler who made her debut in 2006 and won the Southeastern Championship Wrestling Women’s Championship in 2008. In addition to her numerous championship wins, she is best known for her work with All Elite Wrestling where she appeared as The Librarian. In 2023, she appeared in the Netflix reality show “Squid Game: The Challenge.”

All proceeds benefit the Taste of the Arts scholarship fund, which directly supports students in the fine arts in their pursuit of a quality arts education. This fund supported 46 students in the 2023-24 academic year in their studies at Murray State.

FNB Launches New Mayfield Rebuilds Construction Cam

FNB Bank is proud to announce the launch of a construction cam that will provide daily live streaming of the new Fiscal Court Administration Building in Mayfield. Live feeds are available daily from 6 AM – 9 PM at: https://growwithfnb.com/constructioncam/.

The deadliest tornado on record for December swept through Mayfield, Kentucky on December 10, 2021, killing 24 people and destroying homes and businesses.  Among those severely damaged structures was FNB Bank’s Mayfield Main Office, and the town’s iconic Courthouse and City Hall.  Since then, the City of Mayfield, the Graves County Fiscal Court, local businesses, and local homeowners have been focused on recovering and rebuilding together. In January 2024, FNB proudly reopened our Mayfield Main Office, and was the first business to rebuild back on the court square following the tornado. Since our reopening, more neighbors have broken ground and will be returning to the downtown area.  We are excited about the progress that’s in process, and wanted to share it with our community and beyond by offering this construction cam that will provide a daily front porch view of the rebuilding progress.

“We are excited to have our neighbors rebuilding back on the court square in Mayfield,” stated Brooke Wiles, FNB’s Chief Marketing Officer.  “We know firsthand what it is like to recover and rebuild after the devasting tornado, and we want to celebrate those that are doing the same.  Our new construction camera is one way we can showcase the progress being made in our downtown area to those near and far.”

BBB Scam Alert: Want to Watch the Local High School Game? Be Aware of Sports Streaming Scams

You used to have to go to the stadium to root for your local high school athletic team or your favorite college or professional sports team. However, online streams now make it possible for people to watch games from the comfort of their living rooms. Unfortunately, the scammers have followed. By sharing fake streaming links on social media, scammers aim to capture personal information, including credit card and Social Security numbers, as fans get tricked into logging in to watch their team play.

How the scam works

You want to watch the local high school’s football game, or your niece’s college softball team is playing in a tournament out of state. You search online to find a link where the game might be streamed, and sure enough, a fan has shared a link on social media where you can watch for free! It’s almost time for the game to start, so you eagerly click the link. The next screen asks you to sign up for the streaming service, so you enter your name and email… and then you get asked for a credit card number and potentially more sensitive information. Are you seeing red flags yet?

These scammers infiltrate social media with links to fake streams. The posts often will tag the high schools, colleges, or professional teams involved to make the post appear legitimate. The scammers hope the would-be viewer inputs their information and pays to watch the event. The consumer doesn’t get to watch the game because the scammer has not set up a stream. Instead, whatever data they entered may be compromised.

As a new school year begins, Better Business Bureau® reminds consumers to do their research when looking to watch a high school, college, or professional sporting event online.

“Fans need to remain diligent in where and how they find the stream of a high school contest,” Matt Troha, an Assistant Executive Director with the Illinois High School Association, told BBB.

Troha said fake streaming links posted to social media lure unsuspecting fans.

“On Twitter especially, take notice of account names and photos, which often seem random, and look at their follower and following numbers,” Troha said. “Low follower counts indicate the account likely was just started. Look at the content of their posts as most are nothing but tweets to stream games.”

Last year, state associations that oversee high school athletics in New MexicoIndiana, and North Carolina issued warnings about the fake streams.

“If you want to watch a specific school’s game online, check with the school to see if it has streaming options available,” said Michelle L. Corey, president and CEO of the BBB office in St. Louis. “While many schools do offer live streaming now, there are others who do not.”

BBB Scam Tracker has received reports of fake sports streaming links. One consumer shared, “The link was posted under a high school football post claiming we could watch the high school football games for free. Then it asked for credit card information in order to charge $1. After putting in credit card information, I was not able to watch any football games…my trial was for 24hours and if I didn’t cancel, it would charge my credit card $60 per month.”

BBB offers these tips on how to stay safe online:

  • Research any website before paying any money or entering any information. Check the company’s BBB Business Profile at BBB.org.
  • Pay by credit card whenever possible if you need to challenge the payment.
  • Check a site’s security settings. If the site is secure, its URL (web address) should start with “HTTPS://.” You may also see a picture of a small closed lock in the screen’s lower right-hand corner.
  • Confirm the site you’re visiting is legitimate. Scammers can create fake, realistic websites to trick consumers into thinking they’re on the right webpage. Read BBB’s tips on identifying a fake website.
  • Be cautious before clicking links included in social media posts, unsolicited text messages, or emails. Clicking on unfamiliar links can place you at risk for malware or identity theft.
  • See more online shopping tips.

FNB Donates Over $21,500 Back to Local Schools Through Spirit Debit Card Program

FNB Bank is proud to announce that they have donated over $21,500 back to Mayfield, Graves County, Trigg County, and Marshall County Schools through their Spirit Debit Card Program. These donations to the school systems are a result of FNB’s 2nd quarter 2024 Spirit Debit Card Program.

“We are proud to offer our exclusive FNB Spirit Debit Card Program to our local schools,” stated Brooke Wiles, FNB Marketing Director.  “Our customers have pride in knowing that they are making a difference in the lives of our youth by simply swiping their Spirit Debit Cards at the checkout.  The donated funds allow the school systems the opportunity to do more for their students and staff, which is an invaluable asset to our community.”

The FNB Spirit Debit Card Program allows FNB and their customers the opportunity to give back to their local schools when they use their FNB debit card.  FNB currently offers Spirit Debit Cards for Mayfield, Graves County, Trigg County, and Marshall County Schools.  The Spirit Card works like a traditional debit card and for each signature-based transaction (not using your PIN), FNB donates $0.10 to the corresponding school.  The tracking process is hassle free for the card holder, as FNB does all the tracking and submits the check to each school on a quarterly basis.  The donated funds are utilized at the school’s discretion.

In 2023, FNB donated over $87,000 to their participating schools through the Spirit Debit Card Program.  To learn more about the Spirit Debit Card Program, stop by your nearest FNB Office or visit www.GrowWithFNB.com.
