FNB PRESENTS $13,750 GRANT TO BENEFIT HABITAT FAMILY
May 21, 2019 (Mayfield, KY) FNB Bank proudly presented a $13,750 grant to the Murray-Calloway County Habitat for Humanity’s 15th family, which will be paid in installments over five years. The grant was awarded through the Affordable Housing Program by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati (FHLB Cincinnati) and was made possible by FNB’s sponsorship.
The grant was a joint effort for both FNB and the Murray Calloway County Habitat for Humanity. Carolyn Todd, FNB Office Manager and President of the Murray Calloway County Habitat for Humanity saw the opportunity for the partnership in 2017. “We (Habitat board members) attended a training session sponsored by Habitat of Kentucky in the Fall of 2017. A Federal Home Loan Bank representative spoke at the event about the grant opportunities available through bank partnerships. For me, it was a natural fit. This was Habitat’s first attempt at a grant since 2000 and we were excited about the opportunity.”
FHLB sets aside 10 percent of net earnings annually to be used as subsidies to finance development of affordable housing, with those funds made available only through financial institutions that are members of FHLB. At that point, FNB saw an opportunity and gladly took on the sponsorship role, being a member of the FHLB.
“FNB is proud to partner with FHLB and Habitat for Humanity to assist in providing this family an affordable home that will meet the family need. A permanent home for a family can be life changing. We were honored to assist with this project and hope to partner again with Habitat for Humanity to sponsor a grant when available,” stated FNB Chief Operating Officer, Sally Hopkins.
The grant money was put towards the construction of an energy efficient home and was specifically designed for a moderate-income first-time home buyer family with special circumstances. The original funding announcement presentation took place on February 8, 2017, with funding subject to construction completion as specified within the grant.
Construction on the 3-bedroom, 2 bath home began in May 2017 and the family moved in on August 2018. Lead contractor, Steve Arant, worked with several area contractors throughout the construction phase. Many area churches, along with the local contractors, were instrumental in donating their time and skills for the project.
