October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month
Scammers are getting more creative and knowing what to look for can make all the difference. In recognition of Cybersecurity Awareness Month this October, FNB is sharing this Scam Survival Guide to help you protect your personal information, accounts, and peace of mind. These simple tips can help you stay one step ahead and keep your information safe.
Think Before You Click
Be cautious with suspicious emails and texts that contain links.
• Don’t click on links or open attachments from unknown senders.
• Be wary of urgent messages that pressure you to act quickly.
• Look closely for misspelled words or suspicious email addresses.
Verify Before You Trust
Scammers can pretend to be anyone, even your bank.
• We will never ask for your online banking credentials, PIN, debit card number.
• If you’re contacted unexpectedly, hang up and call us directly using a listed phone number from a trusted source.
• Don’t rely on caller ID – it can be fake.
Protect Your Information
Keep your personal and financial information private.
• Use strong, unique passwords for each account.
• Turn on multifactor authentication whenever possible.
• Never share account numbers, PINs or security codes.
Watch for Red Flags
Be alert for common signs of a scam.
• Requests for money, gift cards, or wire transfers.
• Unexpected messages about account problems, prizes, or a special offer.
• Someone claiming to be a government agency, law enforcement, or tech support.
Take Action if Something Feels Off
The faster you act, the better.
• Stop communicating with the scammer.
• Contact FNB using a trusted phone number or through our official website.
• Monitor your accounts for unusual activity.
• Report the scam to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
